Rabie-el-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic calendar and 12th of this month marks the birth of the last Prophet of Islam Mouhamed '' peace be upon him '' Mawlid is an Arabic word which means ‘time of birth’ but in Islamic literature Mawlid-un-Nabbawi means ‘Birth of the Prophet’. It is believed that Mohammad, the last Prophet of Islam, was born in the year 569 A.D Celebration of Mawlid en-Nabaoui Echarif in Algeria has two main aspects the religious one when people gather in mosques and streets to pray, recite the Qur’an (the Holy book for Muslims) and listen to poetry and songs that praise Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), his life, qualities, accomplishments and teachings. The second aspect is about food people cook special plates such as baklawa and tamina. Chekhchouka kouskous tlitli or Trida,and they share them with family neighbours and poor people.
